Southislandtrip – Day 3

Today we stayed in Wanaka, just as we will do tomorrow. It´s really nice here! After breakfast we were Paddleboarding. Or Stand-up-paddleing. Whatever you like better.
Do you know that? If not, here a short description: You stand on a Surfboard, which is a little bit bigger than a real surfboard. And you paddle. I really like it! We paddled to a small Island in the middle of the Wanaka lake. Okay, not the middle, but it was not too close! After a short rest there we changed devices. Whoever went with a kayak till now would go back with a Board. So I did kayaking. I like both, but I really prefer Stand-up-paddling! Has one of you done it till now? If yes, which one did you prefer?

At the afternoon we went biking. A really nice sport! It was mountainbiking to be honest. But still, great! The track we went was much better than just a street. I miss biking really much. AT my hostfamily I don´t have an bike. But, hey! Here are other sports. When we are talking about sports: On the trip we did so many sports. We were really active! We went hiking and swimming very often. But who am I to say that´s bad? It is not! I really love both of these sports!

In the evening we had time again. Yesterday we watched Charlie and the chocolatefactory. At the motel we stay with you can borrow movies. Today we didn´t wanted to watch a clacc again, but a new zealand one. Well, more one, which was filmed here. No, not Lord of rings, and also not Avatar. Narnia was filmed in New Zealand too. We watched the first one. I really like it!

All the best, Jana

Southislandtrip – Day 2

Today we were hiking very much. Really much! We drove from Tekapo into the direction of Mt. Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand. It looked a little bit like a very big Iceblock… Just kidding. It looked a little bit unreal though, but it was real. The mountain was white because of the snow. I guess the snow melted and got icy a few times, because it is really shiny.

We went to a viewpoint called the Kea-Point. From there you were able to see parts of the former glacier. But I liked it more, when we walked to another viewpoint. From there saw the big parts of the former Glacier, which look a little bit like a desert now. Also there was a big Glacierlake, which had a light blue colour. The view was really stunning! Even if all the stairs to that view were a little bit annoying, I would do it again and again only for that view.

It was really nice there. After going up and down there we drove to Wanaka. Wanaka is a popular holidayspot at a lake, which has the same name. In this lake I was swimming. It was cold, but very nice! There were a few platforms, were you could jump off. That was really fun! I did not do a backwards flip, but there are a few people, who do that… Crazy!

All the best, Jana

Ps: These posts were already written last week, what means that I am in Christchurch right now. The Posts of last week were planned before going onto the trip.

Southislandtrip – Day 1

Today we started the trip. First we met at the school, and then we drove to Tekapo in two vans. I was in a very quiet one, but that was not that bad. We made a stop at Fairlie. There is the probably best pies shop in whole new zealand. The pies were just perfect. If you ever visit New Zealand, you have to eat a pie there!

Than we went on to Tekapo. Tekapo is a small town at a lake. A pretty big lake. Actually, not so big like Taupo (the supervolcano), but still pretty big. A friend said it looked a little bit like Norway.

We went hiking to a viewpoint at the top of a hill. It was incredible! Really, the lake and all the mountains are so beautiful! Just beautiful! And if you ever go there, look at the stars. They are really incredible. It looks like a picture from Hubble, the space telescope. I was not able to make a picture of that because there was no chance to get the stars onto the photos how they looked like. Probably you know pictures of the sky from years ago, when there was not so much light to cover the stars. It looks like that.

In the lake you shouldn´t swim if you ask our teachers. That´s why we were in Hot springs. Again. It is exactly like Hot water pools. I like it, and it is relaxing, but I guess I was just too often in these pools. But still, the view from these Pools is pretty nice. The view from the Pools there was better than even in Taupo. There you could see over the lake, there were lights. Even that was stunning, but this was even better! You can´t describe that. To understand what I mean you must see it!

All the best, Jana
